What landscape lighting costs, published before you call.
Four tiers, the per-fixture numbers behind them, and what moves a project from one to the next. Every range includes the fixtures, wire, transformers, trenching, the aiming visit and the warranty.

What every number includes
Nothing quoted separately that should have been in the price.
-
i.
Fixtures.
Solid brass and copper, low-voltage LED at 3000K, shielded for dark-sky aiming, with a lifetime fixture warranty.
-
ii.
Power and wire.
Transformers loaded to about 80% of rating, wire sized for the run, and gel-filled direct-burial connectors at every joint.
-
iii.
Installation.
Hand-dug inside root zones, wire buried at depth, lawn and beds closed the day they're opened. Two to three days on site is typical.
-
iv.
Commissioning.
A separate evening visit with you there: every fixture aimed individually and output tuned down until it reads right. Then a second look inside 30 days.
What moves the price
Five things decide where a property lands.
-
i.
How much is lit.
About $250 per fixture installed at the front-of-house end. A focused front elevation needs 10 to 20; a fully designed property 20 to 35.
-
ii.
How far the light has to travel.
Long drives and deep lots need heavier wire and more transformers, which is why estate grounds run nearer $400 per fixture.
-
iii.
What else is on the property.
Pool surrounds, steps, retaining walls and hardscape each add fixtures and integration work.
-
iv.
How it is controlled.
Basic timer control keeps a project in the lower tiers. App control, zoned scenes and links to a home automation system move a project up a tier.
-
v.
Finishes and optics.
A custom finish or specialty optic adds about $150 per fixture.
Worked examples
Four properties, priced the way we'd price them.
These are illustrations built from the per-fixture numbers above, not past projects. Your written proposal itemizes every fixture on your property.
Front of house.
Fourteen fixtures across the facade, the entry walk and two specimen trees. At about $250 each, roughly $3,500.
Economy ยท Illustrative ii.Front and rear.
Twenty-eight fixtures covering the front, the approach and the main patio. At a blended $300 or so each as the runs lengthen, roughly $8,400.
Signature ยท Illustrative iii.Pool, patio and app control.
Forty-five fixtures with the pool surround, steps and zoned scenes. Roughly $15,000.
Reserve ยท Illustrative iv.Estate grounds.
Seventy-five fixtures on multi-acre grounds with custom controls. At about $400 each, roughly $30,000.
Legacy ยท IllustrativeBeyond lighting
Audio and service, priced the same way.
Outdoor audio: a single-zone patio system with buried subwoofer and satellite speakers runs $4,500 to $9,000 installed. Installed with the lighting it shares the trench, which costs meaningfully less than adding it later.
Existing systems: a $195 flat inspection documents every fixture, zone, transformer and connection in writing on a system someone else installed. Maintenance visits start at $195.
Pricing questions
Answered plainly.
How much does landscape lighting cost in Ontario?
Most complete residential systems fall between $3,000 and $28,000. A focused front-of-house design with 10 to 20 brass fixtures runs $3,000 to $5,500. A fully designed property with 20 to 35 fixtures runs $5,500 to $11,000, and that is where most homes land. Pool decks, hardscape and app-controlled zoning put a project at $11,000 to $21,000, and multi-acre grounds with custom controls start around $28,000. Every range includes fixtures, wire, transformers, trenching, commissioning and warranty.
Why do you publish prices?
Because the fastest way to lose an afternoon is to quote a $9,000 system to someone who was picturing $3,000. Publishing the ranges means the consultation starts from a real number, and the written proposal that follows itemizes every fixture so you can see exactly how your property lands inside them.
Is there a minimum project size?
Yes, $3,000. Below that the visit, the transformer and the commissioning evening cost the same as on a larger job, and the result is usually a handful of fixtures that don't add up to a design. If the budget is smaller this year, we'll draw the whole property and build the front first.
Can I start small and add to it later?
Yes. The proposal covers the whole property even when phase one is only the facade and entry walk, so transformers, wire gauges and zones are sized for the finished system from day one. Phase two then drops into capacity that already exists rather than needing a second transformer and a second round of trenching.
Do you charge for the consultation or the proposal?
No. The 45-minute evening consultation and the written proposal are both free, and the proposal is yours to keep whether or not you hire us. The only paid assessment is an inspection of a system someone else installed: $195 flat, documented in writing.
Why does solid brass cost more than the fixtures at a big-box store?
Because it is a different product with a different lifespan. Aluminum fixtures pit, chalk and start letting water into the housing within about six years in Ontario, faster near road salt or a pool deck. Solid brass patinas and then stops changing, which is why we can carry a lifetime warranty on the fixture. The difference shows up in year six, not on the invoice.
