Process
From first call to final aim.
Four steps, written down so you know what happens at each one, who's there, and what you get. You can stop after any of them.
The part that matters most
Designed after dark, on your property.
You can't design lighting at two in the afternoon. Beam spread, brightness and how a facade answers a grazing angle only show after dark, yet the usual approach is a daytime walk-through and a quote by email the following week.
We come out after dark with a portable kit of the same brass fixtures we install, mark the positions on the property and show you the effects on your own trees and stone. Every effect in the final design is one you've already seen standing in your driveway.
The four steps
What happens, in order.
- i.
Consultation.
A 45-minute visit after dark. We walk the property, listen to how you use it, and demonstrate effects on your actual architecture with the portable kit. Nothing is installed and nothing is quoted on the spot.
- ii.
Proposal.
Fixture counts, zone architecture, beam spreads, transformer sizing and itemized pricing, in one written document. It's yours whether you hire us or not.
- iii.
Installation.
Hand-dug inside root zones, wire buried at depth, gel-filled direct-burial connectors at every joint, and lawn and beds closed the day they're opened. Two to three days on site is typical.
- iv.
Commissioning.
A separate evening visit with you there. Every fixture is aimed individually, scenes are set, and output is tuned down until it reads right. Then a second look within 30 days, once you've lived with it.
Timing
When to book, and how long it takes.
Consultations usually happen within two weeks, often the same week outside the June to August peak, and they run year-round. Most Signature-tier projects go in the ground within three to five weeks of a signed proposal. Installation slows between January and March when the ground is frozen, which makes winter the best time to book a spring install.
Process questions
Answered plainly.
How soon can you come out?
Usually inside two weeks, and often the same week outside the June to August peak. Consultations run year-round.
How long from a signed proposal to installation?
Most Signature-tier projects go in the ground within three to five weeks of a signed proposal. Estate-scale work with custom controls runs longer, because fixtures are ordered to the design. Installation slows between January and March when the ground is frozen, and systems booked in January or February get the first spring slots.
Do I need to be home for the consultation and the aiming?
Yes, for both. The point of designing on site is that you see the effects on your own property and say what you like, and the aiming visit is where the output gets tuned with you standing in the drive.
Do you charge for the consultation or the proposal?
No. The consultation and the written proposal are both free, and the proposal is yours to keep whether or not you hire us. The one paid visit is the $195 inspection of a system someone else installed.
Step one
It starts with 45 minutes, after dark.
We come out after dark and light your property temporarily, so you can stand in it before you commit to anything. Free, no renders.
