Landscape lighting ยท Vaughan

Landscape lighting in Vaughan. Less light, placed exactly.

Kleinburg, Thornhill and the Nashville estates have many newer and rebuilt homes, and contemporary facades reward a completely different approach from traditional brick and stone.

The local condition

Clean lines punish sloppy aim.

A heritage brick facade is forgiving: texture hides a lot, and slightly imprecise aim reads as atmosphere. A flat contemporary elevation in stucco, panel or smooth stone hides nothing. Every hot spot and every fixture a few degrees off shows.

The technique flips: less grazing, more washing, with fixtures set further back on wider, softer beams. Where traditional houses want light raking across texture, contemporary ones usually want surfaces lit evenly and masses separated by darkness.

The other Vaughan trait is younger landscaping. Newer builds often have planting that hasn't filled in, so concealment is planned for the garden in five years, not the week we install.

Lighting a contemporary facade

Four adjustments for clean architecture.

  • i.

    Wash, don't graze.

Smooth stucco, flat panel and honed stone show every flaw when light rakes across them. Fixtures move further from the wall with wider beams.

    Further back, wider beam
  • ii.

    Separate the masses with darkness.

Contemporary houses are composed of intersecting volumes. Lighting one mass and leaving the next dark reveals that composition; lighting everything evenly erases it.

    Light one, leave one
  • iii.

Hide the source in the architecture.

Soffit downlights, integrated step lights and flush in-grade fixtures suit these houses better than visible bullets in a bed, and they're far cheaper to plan before the soffit closes.

    Integrated, not applied
  • iv.

Conceal for the garden in year five.

Young planting doesn't hide hardware. We place fixtures for how the beds will fill in, and where something stays visible in the meantime, we say so.

    Planned for the mature garden

Vaughan questions

Answered plainly.

How much does landscape lighting cost in Vaughan?

Newer Vaughan homes often need fewer fixtures than you'd expect, because contemporary facades are lit with restraint. The published ranges still apply. A focused front-of-house design with 10 to 20 brass fixtures runs $3,000 to $5,500. A fully designed property with 20 to 35 fixtures runs $5,500 to $11,000, where most homes land. Larger Kleinburg and Nashville properties with pools, integrated architectural lighting and scene control run $11,000 to $21,000, and estates with custom controls start around $28,000. Every range includes fixtures, wire, transformers, trenching, commissioning and warranty.

My house is new. Should I wait for the landscaping to mature?

No, but the design should account for it. We place fixtures for the garden you'll have in five years and phase the work where that makes sense. If beds or hardscape are still going in, bringing us in before the stone lands saves real money on sleeves and conduit.

Can you plan lighting into a home that's still being built?

Yes, and it's the cheapest time to do it. Soffit downlights, in-grade fixtures and conduit runs cost far less before finishes go on. We'll coordinate with your builder or landscaper directly.
